NEWS ABOUT A NEW NEWSLETTER!!!!!

There is a very strong group of local Victorians and Vancouver Islanders who are deeply fascinated and involved in Jungian ideas : some use the theory of Analytical Psychology in their teaching or practice; many read Jungian material or attend the Jung Society's monthly events; others are in Jungian Analysis.

One thing that unites all these people is how Jung's ideas offer a sense of meaning to their lives. But, a piece is missing in this mosaic, and that is that there is no true voice for this community.

In response to this need, the Jung Society is establishing a digital publication. We'd like to have a bimonthly newsletter/journal/forum that reflects the ideas, views and excitement of the Jungian community on Vancouver Island. The articles, reviews and letters to be in this publication are not written by Jung Society Board members alone, nor by members of the Jung Society alone, but by anyone who wants their voice heard about Jungian matters.

The newsletter launch date is 30th July of this year. We are looking for submissions (by 30 June 2005) in the following areas:

1. Specific ideas from Jung you want to share your experiences of;
2. An image (a drawing, a painting or a photograph) that captures something important for you that you'd like to share with the community.
3. A book review (of a Jungian book, or a book that reflects for you a Jungian issue/theme/motif; both fiction or non-fiction; ancient, classic or modern.)
4. Questions you pose that readers may answer in later editions of the newsletter.
5. Film Review (anything goes in terms of genre, period, theme, motif, film-maker, actor or symbol)
6. Commentary on current events from a Jungian perspective
7. A great recipe (we all need comfort food every now and again)
8. Historical issues (family, region, cultural)
9. Cultural issues (reflections on ritual and practice within a specific culture e.g. adolescent initiation; costume; dance etc. - remember that we are fortunate to live in a culturally diverse and rich country).
10. Generational/Developmental issues (from infant to wise old senior)
11. Politics
12. Letters to the editor
13. Humour (stories, cartoon, even funny photographs)
14. Events : if you are offering a seminar, workshop or experience that you feel is of interest to the Jungian community, let us know and we'll try to publish it in the newsletter.

How to submit material:

Jung emphasised a strong connection between the psyche and the environment, so, in keeping with this approach, we don't want to print the newsletter on paper.  Please submit everything through email. Send written material in two ways : in the body of the email text; and, as a MicroSoft Word file attachment. Send images as Adobe Acrobat pdf's.

If you are having any difficulty with the electronic issues of submitting material, please send us an email and we can try to work out the challenge together with you.

At this stage we do not have any word/article length guidelines.

We also have no idea what to call this newsletter. You can help us by suggesting a title. Send your ideas to the Jung Society and the Board will list these suggestions in the next edition and you can vote on the names.

Finally, although this publication is a Vancouver Island grassroots newsletter, we all belong to a world community. Help us connect with that community by asking your friends to send us an email asking to subscribe, or even submit an article. Have them send this email to jbetts5@telus.net and include "NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIPTION" in the subject line.

Please send all your material to John Betts at jbetts5@telus.net. We will acknowledge your submissions and include you in any editing process.

With fond regards

The Victoria Jung Society Board.
