The classical
scent of Baieido.
Baieido
dates back to Muromachi period. The founder, Kakuuemon Yamatoya,
became medicinal wholesaler in Sakai, where incense trading was
brisk.
In 1657, the owner named himself "Jinkoya Sakubei" (title
used by medicinal incense experts), and specialized in incense sticks.
In the
beginning of Edo period, Buddhism became popular among people, and
many enjoyed fine incense. In Meiji period the shop established
by Sakubei was named Nakata Baieido, and enjoyed patronage from
the head of each Buddhist sect. In this way, Baieido dedicated itself
to making incense over last 300 years. As each shop has its distinctive
way of making incense sticks, Baieido has its own secrets. They
have been handed down from generation to generation...
